Narrative :
The history I choose is from 1948 until 2011. As everyone knows that North Korea and South Korea was one country, but due to the war, they separated in to two country. The history period I choose is very important for North Korea, because during the period, North Korea experienced the war, national disruption, established new country, set up new policies, a new leader came out and leaded people. During this period, I think there are five important things can refer as turing points.
The first one is "Division."
The division of Korea into North Korea and South Korea stems from the 1945 Allied victory in World War II, ending Japan's 35-year occupation of Korea. This is a turing points because in Febuary 21st, 1948, Korea officially divided into two nations. Kim II Sung became the leader of North Korea and established this country. The man in the picture is Kim II Sung and I put a video link to help you guys gain some information of the division of Korea.
The second one is "Korean War."
Korean War is the conflict between the North Korea and the South Korea in which at least 2.5 million persons lost their lives. The war reached international proportions in June 1950 when North Korea, supplied and advised by the Soviet Union, invaded the South. The United Nations, with the United States as the principal participant, joined the war on the side of the South Koreans, and the People’s Republic of China came to North Korea’s aid. After more than a million combat casualties had been suffered on both sides, the fighting ended in July 1953 with Korea still divided into two hostile states.

The third one is "New Leader"
In July 8th, 1994. Kim Il Sung dies and son Kim Jong Il takes over as North Korean dictator. South Korean Presient was scheduled to travel to P’yŏngyang in July 1994 for an unprecedented summit between the two Korean leaders, but Kim Il-Sung died before the meeting could take place. Kim Jong Il ascended to power after his father’s death, and, in the revised constitution that was promulgated in 1998, the office of president was written out and the elder Kim was written in as “eternal president of the republic.”
The fourth one is "Historic meeting"
In June 1st, 2000. North Korea's Kim Jong Il meets with South Korean President Kim Dae Jung at a summit in Pyongyang. This meeting is called "Inter-Korean Summits" The importance of this meeting is the lack of formal communication between North and South Korea, which makes discussing political and economic issues difficult. This first summits made Kim Jong II received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts as this summit occurred seemingly as a result of his Sunshine Policy.
The last one is "Kim Jong Il dies"
In December 12th, 2011, Kim Jong Il dies of a heart attack at 69. Millions of North Koreans were engulfed in indescribable sadness. This is a turning point for North Korea to engage more closely with the international community. Kim Jong Il inherited the leadership of North Korea from his father Kim Il-sung and people hope he can improve his father's policy to become more globalization.
